NPI lookup by tax ID (EIN)

Enter an organization's EIN. If it's a tax-exempt organization (most hospitals, clinics and health centers run by nonprofits), we find its IRS record and the NPI records that match its name and address.

Searches go to the official CMS NPI Registry. We don't store them. Tax ID (EIN) searches cover tax-exempt organizations only: why. How it works

What you should know first

No public record connects a tax ID to an NPI. The NPI registry doesn't publish EINs, and the IRS doesn't publish NPIs. So this tool works in two steps: it looks up the EIN in the IRS list of tax-exempt organizations, then searches the NPI registry for organizations with the same name in the same state, and ranks them by how closely the name and address agree. The result is a good lead, not proof.

What it can't do

Other ways to find the NPI that goes with a tax ID

See Can you look up an NPI by tax ID? for the methods that do work: claim forms, remittances, payer portals and asking the provider's billing office.
